Taking a Stand

Welcome to Lake County Features — an independent digital publication dedicated to original, in-depth reporting on the people, places and forces shaping Lake County. We deliver clarity, context and independence — no fluff, no press release rewrites.

Our goal is to share the many sides of Lake County — from its vineyards, farms and small businesses to the cultural life, natural beauty and challenges that affect its long-term health and sustainability. We present the complete picture, even when that means examining difficult or less flattering truths.

Our contributors include experienced journalists, artisans, business leaders, activists and creative voices. As residents and professionals, we care deeply about the region’s future and are committed to telling the stories that matter most.

Unlike our sister publications, Napa Valley Features and Sonoma County Features, this project won’t follow a strict weekly schedule (at least for now). Instead, posts will appear as stories arise, anchored by three recurring series:

  • The Makers — profiles of the people shaping Lake County’s taste and culture, from farmers and winemakers to artists and entrepreneurs.

  • The Weekender — a guide to local events, performances, markets and cultural happenings, plus seasonal highlights and photo essays.

  • Field Notes — explores the region’s natural world through grounded observation, science and reflection — not as scenery but as a living, dynamic presence shaped by time, habitat and history.

  • Under the Hood — exclusive, data-driven analysis on issues affecting Lake County, from housing and water to agriculture and the economy.

Lake County Features is entirely subscription-supported with no advertising. Your support helps sustain independent local journalism, ensuring these stories are told with accuracy, depth and integrity.

If you value this work, please share it. To help it grow, consider becoming a subscriber.

Editorial Integrity and Corrections Policy

We believe in accurate, fair and transparent reporting. That means we don’t just get the story right — we’re also clear about what happens when we make a mistake.

  • Factual corrections (names, dates, figures, quotes, etc.) are made as soon as verified and noted with a correction notice at the top of the article.

  • Minor edits (grammar, typos, formatting) that don’t affect tone or meaning may be made without a public notice — but we still track them internally.

  • We do not alter stories just because a subject is unhappy with how they’re portrayed. Journalism isn’t PR, and our job is to report — not revise history.

  • All significant edits are reviewed by the editor and documented in our internal change log.

Correction notices will always explain:

  • What changed

  • Why it changed

  • When it changed

Example:
Correction (Aug. 7, 2025): A previous version of this story misstated the year of the event. It occurred in 2019, not 2020. The article has been updated.

If you see something you believe is incorrect, we welcome factual clarifications. Reach us at lakecountyfeatures@gmail.com. If it’s an error, we’ll fix it. If it’s a matter of preference or discomfort, we’ll kindly decline.

We take our responsibility seriously — to the facts, to our readers and to the public record.
